Locally-owned gallery and community woodshop in the historic River Arts District of Asheville, North Carolina, dedicated to highlighting and advancing the art of woodworkers and craftspeople in our mountain region.
We are located at 17 Foundy Street in the River Arts District of Asheville, North Carolina. Gallery hours are Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday 11am-5pm; Sunday 12-5pm; and Tuesday and Wednesday by appointment.
Established in 2017, the gallery at Foundation Woodworks showcases a wide array of fine woodworking from 45 local artists. Turned bowls, wall sculptures, homegoods, jewelry, lighting, woodcut prints, kitchenware, cutting boards, and a varied selection of heirloom-quality furniture are all featured here.
We also provide a community woodshop to 11 local woodworkers, which is attached to and viewable from the art gallery. This woodshop is fully outfitted with specialized tools, dust collection, work benches, and private studio space. Renters in this shared workspace have 24/7 access and are active participants in a diverse community of woodworkers, both newly-graduated and those well-established in their careers. This promotes a collaborative environment to share skills, resources, and fellowship in what can often be a very solitary practice.
We offer woodworking classes to the public; select “Classes” from the drop-down menu to see our current offerings. Private workshops for groups are available by request.
Foundation Woodworks strives to create a welcoming, educational environment for both artists and visitors to join with us in fostering the legacy of fine art and craft in southern Appalachia. It is locally owned and operated by Mark and Jacqueline Oliver, married artists with respective degrees in sculpture and illustration and shared professional experience in design and large-scale art installation.
